Hawke's Bay Regional Council wanted a more effective way to display the environmental monitoring data on their website. WebShed helped with user interface, user experience, wireframing, requirements analysis, the web application build and project management.
Hawke's Bay Regional Council wanted a more effective and user-friendly way to share environmental monitoring data on their website. What we created was the ability to view this information in three different ways: as a table, map or a chart. This allowed the user to choose the way they wanted to interact with the information.
WebShed had to integrate into the councils Telemetry system and GIS servers to obtain all of the data. This data was also integrated into Google maps and Highcharts to be displayed using those platforms. WebShed added the ability to adjust the timeframe for the charts to allow the user to decide what they wanted to see. This information could then also be exported.
The images change in the table, and on the map, depending upon the level of the readings. This makes the system easy to see which sites are receiving more rainfall etc.
Client: Hawke's Bay Regional Council
Project: Web Application
Our council produces a large quantity of scientific data that needs to be made publicly available on our website. As part of our new website project we decided to improve the user experience and presentation of this data. We commissioned WebShed to design and build this module. This was a large undertaking as much of the data was complex, and required WebShed to liaise with numerous scientists and data management staff to extract the correct data. WebShed then had to design and build the module to deliver easy to use and understand webpages involving mapping, charts and tables. I worked with WebShed to help coordinate the work from the council end and was very impressed by their ability to quickly grasp the scientific data that had to be presented, and design very effective solutions that worked well for our end user.
